THE AEOLIAN  PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE – 795 DUNDAS ST. LONDON

Saturday May 10, 2008 8:00 pm

“The busiest musician in South-western Ontario returns to his roots to perform

American Songbook Standards with his 6-piece acoustic jazz band at

      The Aeolian Performing Arts Centre

CHRIS MURPHY                       Tenor & Baritone Saxophone and Vocals

TOM LOCKWOOD                     Electric & Acoustic Guitars  wwockwwodguitar.ca

GRANT GRAHAM                      Piano

PHIL MURPHY                          Clarinet

TIM TYLER                               Drums and Vocals

CRAIG SMITH                           Acoustic Bass

Londoner, Chris Murphy has been described as "one of the busiest musicians in South-western Ontario ."  He has toured Canada , The United States and Mexico performing electric blues music with Jack DeKeyzer, Chicago Pete, Alberta Adams and his own group. Chris Murphy’s current project, The Village Blues Band, led the voting in a 7-nominee category and was awarded the 2008 Jack Richardson Award for “Best Blues Band.”

Before starting his own electric blues band in 1985, Chris performed mostly acoustic jazz with his own jazz quartet, the Forest City Jazz Band and the Phil Murphy Big Band.

Chris and his father Phil Murphy often performed together in the early 1980's. As one of London ’s best known musicians, Phil Murphy has made a substantial impact within the community. He is renowned for his contributions as music educator, performer, conductor and adjudicator, with versatility which finds him as comfortable with the genres of classical, theatrical, jazz or Klezmer music, working as easily with young students as with seasoned musicians.

Tom Lockwood’s musical sensibilities are far-ranging - from jazz to classical, from rock to blues. Whether he is playing alone with nothing but a classical guitar in his hands, rockin’ out with the Tom Lockwood Band or groovin’ out with his jazz trio, Tom is in his natural environment.

Grant Graham played piano with the Chris Murphy Quartet at the renowned London nightspot, Bumpers in the mid-eighties and has been active in the London jazz scene for some 35 years.

The rhythm section is rock solid with Craig Smith as bass-man and Tim Tyler on drums.

The concert on May 10th is a rare opportunity for Chris to return to his roots and perform acoustic jazz with some of his favourite jazz musicians.  The band for the Aeolian Hall show will be performing mostly American Songbook Standards.
